What is R.C. ?

What is R.C.? Well to put it simply it is anything and everything about radio control vehicles such as trucks, cars, boats helicopters and planes.

So you may be wondering what’s the difference to the normal toy r/c vehicles you can buy at a toy store? Well the difference is that the toy has not backup support for it, so should you break any part you will have ruined the toy. Also you cannot upgrade these toy r/c vehicles. However when you move up to a hobby grade r/c vehicle you will always have the ability to purchase replacement parts for the vehicles. You would also be able to upgrade the various components on the vehicle making these r/c vehicles a scale down version to there full scale counter parts.

So you have decided to take the lunge in a hobby grade r/c but were to start? Well there are many kinds of r/c vehicles out there, and if you are good with your hands you can even make your own home project yourself but the main types are off-road vehicles, on-road vehicles, boats, helicopters and planes. The choice’s are open with each type of vehicle having there own pros & cons to them.

When you have decided on a types of vehicle you can select a power source. The most popular are electric motors, gasoline motors and nitro motors. Yes motors as a small engine that can run on fuel. Again each have there pros & cons to them but a lot of manufacturers & people go to nitro engines because they give you the feel of a engine and can be made simply and very small for almost any scales size from 1/24 to 1/3 size.

Another great draw to this hobby is that you can upgrade you vehicle to improve it’s performance unlike the toy r/c vehicles. You can get bigger motors, change the exhaust pipes for more power, change the gears for more acceleration, put better tires for more grip and so much more. Also like there full size counterparts there r/c vehicles have all the set like them as well should you want them. So let’s say you have a car and want to make it faster to race, you can change the suspension geometry, change springs, shock fluid, the camber and caster settings, try to make more down force with a wing just like a full size car. Even engine dynos are available so you can modify your engine and then dyno them to see the results again just like a full-scale car. In fact to top all of this, available for people who are really serious about racing can get data acquisition system like on formula 1 cars with all the car information on computers, to get the 100% competitive. This level of racing is at the professional level only and is at an international level were drivers are sponsered.

As a result of this many people who could not afford a full scale race car/truck or boat can so in a miniature scale and still have the fun, excitement and adrenalin rush that the full scale provides for a fraction of the costs. Mechanically inclined people may prefer to build a vehicle for them selves and this is a great idea. As a hobby you can purchase and get help about doing things yourself and half the fun is building your very own vehicle from scratch.

This is an amazing hobby and sport for anyone who is interested and replacement parts can always be acquired, so your toy/hobby will not go to waste.

Trends:

RC Racing has taken root with many RC enthusiasts around the world where they compete in tournaments at amateur, club & professional levels.
What is the appeal? Many racers feel that RC Racing provides a total “adrenaline rush” experience; it also reflects the latest advances in technology, similar to that of the full size vehicles to which they are modeled after.

Tournaments are encouraged and often hosted by clubs, manufactures and developers as a means of further marketing their products. The numbers of Tournaments being held internationally have increased in the last few years with many developers using such events to test-market or launch new model cars and updated hardware & software.

The Expected Future of RC Racing:
The exciting hobby of RC Racing is no longer experiencing dwindling intrest and slow growth; in fact a recent explosion has begun in growth both locally & internationally. The future does not look grim for this hobby, unlike a fad, that would eventually die out. This membership club believes that this hobby is too much fun to die out.

As to the future growth of the hobby, we belive in the concept of “self-fulfilling” prophecy. If we predict that the hobby will grow, subconsciously out actions will lead towards achieving that goal.

As a club, what can we do? Well, we can start by helping newcomers and beginners by giving them useful advice, and that is the main motivation for us. The next step would be to organize affordable and enjoyable racing events. The idea is for us to all experience the fun of racing, win or lose.
